Sometimes I wonder

Why do we hold on to pain

Is it because it defines us?

Is it because we’re scared to let go?

Maybe the unknown

Scares us more

Than the pain

We already know

When we’re in a fight

I hold on to my anger

I push away the light

I push down the laughter

Can we liberate the smile

Can I see beyond my

Own emotions

And see you

For who you are

For what defines you

What’s scaring you

And what is scaring me

To just let go

So I can see

Who I really am
